Some breaking news has occurred! As of reports on February 24, 2026 the UFL has made some changes to maximize offensive performance for the upcoming season.
From Kevin Seifert of ESPN, “It will award four points for any field goal of at least 60 yards and has banned most punts inside of the opponent’s 50-yard line, according to a series of rule revisions the league announced Tuesday”.
It seems like the goal here is to encourage offenses to stay on the field more, and to increase point scoring in the league. The idea is that if there is more scoring and more offense the UFL will be able to attract a larger audience.
Other rule changes:
- The UFL has officially banned the tush push.
- 2-point conversions will now mimic the NFL and be placed at the 2-yard line instead of the previous 5-yard line.
- Teams will now have the option to kick from the 33-yard line for one point, or go for 3 points from the 8-yard line.
- Kickoff has now moved back 5 yards from the previous 40-yard line to the 45-yard line, hoping to improve scoring opportunities by elevating the average field position.
- 2 feet in bounds in now longer required for a catch. Like college, the UFL will only require one foot inbounds for receptions.
